What are the Benefits of Indoor Cycling?

According to the U.S. Department of Health ".....regular physical activity substantially reduces the risk of coronary disease, stroke, colon cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure.....and helps to control weight, contributes to healthy bones, muscles and joints... reduces symptoms of anxiety and depression..." Need we go on? Cycling is also "low-impact" without the joint stress that you get from "ground-pounding" sports and activities. All good reasons to strap-in/clip-on and RYDE!



Katelyn's Journey The Story of a Modern Princess

Though you may not personally know RydeOn! family member Katelyn Schaible, her journey toward better health and fitness is familiar to many of us. She joined our RydeOn! family this past January with a goal. In about 8 months, she will reach it. Here is her story:


I have struggled with my weight for most of my adulthood. I gained 30 pounds in my early 20’s when I started working in EMS. After two babies, I gained another 10-15 pounds and was stuck.

Along with the weight came fatigue, aches, pains, and struggles with IBS. I have a strong family history of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, stroke, and heart attack. I have tried a lot of “diets” over the years, and exercised on and off. Nothing seemed to stick. Life always seemed to get in the way.

In the back of my mind I was always aware that it would be up to me to change my lifestyle, and make choices that would be a positive role model for my kids.
It took a New Year’s resolution to make myself a priority again, and a few friends who wanted to train for the Disney Princess Half Marathon, to put things in perspective.

I made the conscious decision to change my eating habits and make time to exercise. I started running again, and tracking my intake with My Fitness Pal.

I was encouraged to try RydeOn! for cross training. From the very first ride, I felt the energy of the RydeOn! environment. There is something about the positive energy of the group that gives me inspiration and
motivation. RydeOn! has helped me to learn to silence the voice in my head that says “You can’t do this, you’re not strong enough.” I have gained strength, and endurance. I love the motivation I have to continue to push to my next goal when I leave RydeOn! on Saturday mornings.

I ran my first 10k in early June, and am continuing to train for a half marathon. My ultimate goal is health. I have already seen a decrease in my BMI, and resting heart rate. I want to set the example for my kids, and teach them the importance of exercise and good nutrition. I plan to run across that finish line in Disney. I know that
my Saturday morning rides are helping me to get closer to those goals every day.
